    De 1652 a 1656, une quizaine de colons francais s'etaient etablis dans l'ile d'orleans.

    1653. Rene mezeray, abandonmant sa terre du Cap-Rouge, se fixa a la Sainte-Famille, ainsi qu'un autre francais du nom de Jacques Leurier, et Pierre LePetit avec sa femme, Catherine Desnoyers. Il faut mentionner aussi Claude Charon, sieur de La barre, marchand, et sa femme, Claudine Camus; le 29 Avril (1653), sur sa terre de la paroisse Sainte-Jean, deux de ses serviteurs tenterent de l'assassiner; en 1660, il fit un voyage en france; au recensement de 1666, il habitant Quebec.

    Rene Mezeray, ne 1611, a Thury pres Caen, Normandie. Il se marie a Quebec (1641) avec Helene Chastel et n'en eut point d'enfant. Sa seconde femme, Nicole Gareman, lui en donna douze, dont plusieurs furent les nombreuses familles etablies autour de Quebec.

    Rene Mezeray dit Nopce, ou plutot Noce, avait epouse a Quebec, en 1641, Helene Chastel. Au mois d'October 1645, il etait veuf en demeurait chex M. de Chavigny (fief Chavigny ci-dessus), l'orsque le pere le Jeune le marie ave Nicole, fille de Pierre Garemand dit le Picard. Mezeray all ensuite resider sur le fief de M. Leneuf de la Poterie, a Portneuf. Vers 1650, il alla s'etalier au Cap-Rouge, ou il etait encore en 1658.

    He leased land (inherited by his wife Violette-Francoise Millot) to Nicolas Langlois. Rene permitted Nicolas to farm a piece of land joining his and Leonard Faucher de Saint-Maurice for the annual payment of the cens and rents, ten minots of "good seed wheat", fifteen minots of mesteil and three minots of white peas which Nicolas promised to provide to Rene. Langlois was also allowed to clear an arpent of wood during each of the seven years and to dispose of it as he desired. Rene placed his initials at the bottom of the contract. Witnesses were Simon Soumande and Toussaint LeFranc. Notary was Louis Chambalon.
