    Jean leased a farm from Jean Gloria. He was not allowed to "cut down any trees without the consent of his lessor, except for his own firewood which he had to take from behind the house and nowhere else".

    Jean purchased land from Jacques Duhamel. The price was 500 livres in gold pistoles, 300 was paid in cash. This enlarged Jean's land holdings to 100 arpents.

    Inventory of assets:
    After Jean's death, Marie asked notary Duquet to conduct an inventory of his estate. He owned a horse, 2 oxen, 7 head of cattle, 10 pigs and about a dozen chickens. He also had cleared and tilled 16 arpents of land. Harvested that year were rye, oats, peas and hay.
