    Legal Matter:
    Francois and Anne presented themselves at the Seminary of Quebec, before the grand vicar of the bishop, Henri de Bernieres, before the administrator Abbot Pierre Thury, and notary Gilles Rageot. The couple could no longer live decently in Beaumont. They came to the authorities to ask to "give them some work and occupation - a place to live in order to survive". They were given a place on the Lauzon coast across from the Cap-Rouge River, where they could cut wood, clear land, and fish "to their own benefit" for 5 consecutive years.

    Legal Matter:
    Francois went to Msgr de Laval to ask for a lease on his concession at Saint-Nicolas. He had cleared and cultivated between 8 and 9 arpents, built a half-timbered house covered with planks with a masonry chimney, and a thirty-foot long shed. Laval owned these 28 arpents of land. Francois could lease the land for 100 livres a year, to be paid in silver, in products from the land or in fish, understood as eels. They could not sell firewood unless it was pine. Francois signed this contract along with Francois Genaple.
