    Legal Matter:
    Anne was accused of cheating on her husband and some claimed that not all her children were fathered by Charles. She was also accused of trying to rid herself of pregnancies by inducing abortions with Amerindian "cures". Charles accused Anne of sorcery in order to end his marriage. He sought a separation and spoke with the Intendant. He stated that he had not had been intimate with Anne for the last year but others had. Some citizens of Montreal accused her of using magic to over power men and of having a book of magic. Anne was officially accused of adultery and sorcery and an inquiry was conducted. Anne's current lover was ordered to vacate her home but only did for a few days. "Even though the inquiry does not seem to have led to any sentencing, it caused the ?i?bourgeoise?/i? Anne de Lamarque, wife of a ?i?bourgeois?/i?, to fall in public opinion worse that if she had fallen in social status."
