    Legal Matter:
    Jean was accused of burning down a shed belonging to his neighbor Nicolas Cantin. The case was put before the provost judge for Beaupre Coast and then sent to the provost of Quebec. Jean was ordered to pay 100 livres to Cantin, 5 livres for the hospital and court costs. The Sovereign Council suspended the fines on 22 Aug 1671. Nicolas Cantin appealed to the court and on 21 Oct 1671 the Jean was ordered to "pay on this day to the said Quentin the sum of thirty livres in a note to be taken to the warehouse of the King".

    Notary Vachon drew up an inventory of his possessions which included a small house or cabin valued at 30 livres.
